One of the first of the first settlers, Daniel Reynolds, came into the area came in the 18th Century and was nicknamed Old Smoke leading to the community’s first name which was Smoke Ville.
With the establishment of the post office, the name of the community was changed to Wellington after the Duke of Wellington.
The Sandbanks Beach and provincial park is the most famous beach in the region, and with good reason, while the Wellington heritage museum showcases the history especially on the canning industry. The Drake hotel is a boutique hotelier, and the local community center, harbor, and trails for hiking and riding as well as public parks will keep you active and fit all year round.
